UK house prices post slowest pace in 2019

Mubasher: House prices in the UK saw the slowest year-on-year growth pace so far this year in October, data showed on Thursday.

Based on the more stable gauge of annual growth, house prices went up by 0.9% year-on-year last October, according to the house price index data released by the UK’s largest mortgage bank Halifax.

“While this is the lowest growth seen in 2019, it again extends the largely flat trend which has taken hold over recent months,” Halifax’s managing director Russell Galley said.

On a monthly basis, house prices recorded a slight 0.1% decline last month, after a 0.4% gain in September.

“We remain unchanged from our view that activity levels and price growth will remain subdued while the UK navigates political and economic uncertainty,” Galley noted.

By 9:31 am GMT, the GBP/USD pair blipped up by 0.09% to $1.2866, while the EUR/GBP pair ticked down by 0.01% to GBP 0.8608.
